We were supposed to have had a Palestinian state by now under the Bush Jr. parameters. The largest party in I$rael’s parliament still wants an Annapolis-style final status agreement; however, we now have Netanyahu in power. Abbas is still pushing a final status agreement and giving in to Obama’s requests regarding right of return. We presume there would still be right of return to the East Jerusalem religious relics. As long as Palestinians get a chance to vote on it, we’re not concerned.

Egypt’s newspaper is bubbling diplomatic optimism that Netanyahu might sign on the dotted line sooner than people thought. Of course such optimism has been going on for decades.
